The WESTOP SoCal Scholarship Fund was founded to assist first generation, low-income, disabled, veteran, and/or underrepresented students in completing their educational goals. The Student Leadership Scholarship award is $500. The awards are available on a competitive basis to graduating high school seniors and college students who are nominated by a current and paid WESTOP SoCal voting member.

Nominator must be a CURRENT and PAID voting member of WESTOP SoCal.

Each program may nominate only ONE (1) student for the 2020 WESTOP So Cal SLC Scholarship.
The nominated student must be a current and active participant in an Equal Educational Opportunity Program (EOC, McNair, Student Support Services, Talent Search, Upward Bound, Upward Bound Math/Science, Cal SOAP, EOP(S), GEAR Up, etc.).
High school seniors and college students must intend to enroll full-time (12 units) in an accredited college or university for the 2020 - 2021 academic year.

WESTOP SoCal Student Leadership Conference Scholarship Application 2019 
 
Part I: Scholarship Application and Part II: Nominator Form have been designed with the intent to have the Student and Nominator fill out / sign / submit at the same time.  Please have documents such as personal statements, transcripts, Recommender Form and Recommendation Letter ready to upload to complete the application process. 

Part I: Scholarship Application (Student Information)

  • Includes submission of two required personal statements with the following prompts:(upload 2 documents)
  • Personal Statement #1: From a social justice perspective, in a maximum of 500 words, tell us what the phrase "Agents of Change" means to you in relation to your educational development as a student and future professional.
  • Personal Statement #2: In a maximum of 500 words, tell us how Equal Opportunity Programs (GEAR Up, TS, UB, UBMS, UBV, SSS, VSSS, McNair Scholars, EOC, Cal Soap, AVID etc.) have influenced you to pursue/continue a college education and how will this scholarship help you achieve such goals?
  • Resume / Brag Sheet (upload document)
  • Most recent high school transcript - if high school level applicant (upload document)
  • Most recent college transcript - if college level applicant (upload document)
  • Student Signature - electronic signature -  if student is under 18 a parent electronic signature is required


Part II: Nominator 

-Nominator must be present when student is submitting application because nominator’s e-signature will be required.


Part III: Recommendation Form and Letter
– Must be submitted from a counselor, professor, teacher, or any individual who can assess the academic aptitude and/or personal qualities of the scholarship applicant.

***Note: The student will have to scan and upload both a Recommendation Form and Letter of Recommendation from their recommender, so it is important that they obtain these documents before they submit their application.

  • Only completed scholarship applications will be reviewed by the WESTOP SoCal Chapter Scholarship Committee.  Incomplete applications will automatically be disqualified.
  • All application requirements are subject to verification.
  • Scholarship awards will be awarded upon verification of full-time enrollment at an accredited college or university for the Fall 2020 term. 
  • Verification Forms will be provided on 04/04/2020 at the WESTOP SoCal Student Leadership Conference 2020 as awards are presented.
  • Nominators will be notified of scholarship awardees during the second last of March.  Nominators will notify nominees about their award.
  • All scholarship recipients will be our honored guests at the WESTOP SoCal Student Leadership Conference 2019 at California State University, Northridge scheduled on Saturday, April 4th, 2020.
