MaryAnn Doherty has over 30 years of experience in securing grant funding, and managing TRIO and other programs for underrepresented, disadvantaged populations.  She and her siblings were the first in her family to earn college degrees.  Those humble beginnings as a first generation and low-income college student were MaryAnn’s motivation for pursuing a career in higher education, paving a way for others who lacked the family support and resources to achieve a college education.  She has worked at all levels of California public higher education including the California State University, University of California, and the California Community Colleges.  She began her career as an Academic Advisor and Director of TRIO Student Support Services.  To date, she has facilitated submissions for dozens of TRIO project grants totaling more than $100 million and reaching thousands of first generation, low-income and underrepresented students.  Ms. Doherty has served as a peer and field reviewer for numerous U.S. Department of Education grant competitions, including TRIO programs, which provides her a unique insight into the review and scoring process.  She has served as a consultant and expert in grant writing, and program implementation and management since 1996.  She currently serves as the Dean of Grants and Business Services for Moreno Valley College where her focus is on expanding educational opportunities, especially in STEM, for the region’s underrepresented population.

MaryAnn earned her bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Language, with an emphasis in Shakespearian Studies, from Cal Poly Pomona, and a Master’s in Public Administration from CSU San Bernardino.  In her spare time, Ms. Doherty enjoys spending time in her mountain home with her husband and trio of bouncy Boxers.  She is an accomplished designer, clothing designer, seamstress and tailor, and is known among friends and family as a home gourmet.
